100 Years Belmond Sant’Andrea, Taormina

Villa Belmond Sant’Andrea in Taormina celebrated its 100 years of history in Sicily with a unique and extraordinary event.

The first to fall in love with this glimpse of absolute beauty was Robert Trewhella, an English engineer who arrived in Italy to contribute to the development of the country’s infrastructure, also building the Circumetnea railway, a railway line that still runs along the base of Etna today.

Lost among the magic of Taormina, he was so struck by this magical place that he decided to build a sumptuous villa overlooking the beach as a summer residence: completed in 1919 by his son Alfred, the villa subsequently took its name from Cape Sant’Andrea of the Mazzarò Bay.

With the arrival of the Second World War, the family returned to England and the villa was requisitioned by German officers: by a stroke of fate, with the landing of the Allies in Sicily in 1943 it was liberated and transformed into a hotel by Alfred Trewhella’s nephew, Richard Manley, first director of the accommodation facility.

The event to celebrate 100 years of Villa Belmond Sant’Andrea was held in the presence of the Manley family, who inherited it from the Trewhella family, with a retro-style party based on electro swing music and bubbles, embellished with an evocative video mapping 3d, projected on the facade of the villa.

Dhs Event Solution told the story of the villa with images projected on the facade of the structure, thanks to 3D video mapping, and a spectacular play of lights, also taking care of the technical direction of the event and the management of the audio, video and lighting systems.
